"OMG October" Starts Now

This weekend we're launching a month of events celebrating AdventureQuest Worlds' 14th birthday (and Artix Entertainment's 20th anniversary) a day early with an all-new world boss based on one of Lore's most iconic monsters: Nightmare Carnax! Read on for more details about everything coming this weekend.

Carnax World Boss + Rewards

Your heroic adventures through the universe have slowly but surely been causing ripples in the timeline… And now they’ve come together to create another universal threat: Nightmare Carnax. Log in this weekend to enter the Nightmare Realm and fight a brand new World Boss to save our world!

Carnax has risen and been defeated twice in another timeline; now, the monster has found its way into the AdventureQuest Worlds universe and is forming again here! (You can battle through Carnax's first two appearances right now in the original AdventureQuest)

Talk to the Nightmare Queen for more information
Join your fellow heroes to fight back this new threat, and earn wicked reward gear
After the World Boss is defeated, you and everyone else will earn a new limited-time badge from the event

World Boss Details

World Bosses were first introduced to AQW earlier this year in April, when the giant Chickencow from outer space took over Battleon by storm. Here’s what you need to know about Nightmare Carnax’s fight:

The boss will share ONE health bar across every room and every server*
All damage you deal to the boss, whether you die or not, is permanent
While fighting the boss, you will occasionally receive quest items, which can be turned in for XP, gold, and merge reagents
After the boss is defeated, it will never respawn again. Instead, it will be replaced with a killable, permanent version of the monster that will drop the quest items
The room limit is set to 4 heroes. This helps prevent "server churn"** and reduces lag***

Unlike the Chickencow however, this fight will be more difficult and more unique, so bring out your best for this fight! Along with this fight will be several cool cosmetic sets, including a few powerful boosted items.

Here’s a few tips on how to fight the boss:

Nightmare Carnax has an incredibly tough hide, significantly reducing the damage it takes.
Watch out for its laser attack! Avoid the glowing spots on the ground, and the laser will miss you completely. Get hit, and your health AND defenses will be shredded!
Your psionic link to Carnax will grant you an incredible boost to your Endurance and reduce mana costs- make the most of it!
Keep an eye out for its debuffing Roar attack- it can be taunted so it doesn’t hit your teammates.

Earlier this month, our Talk Like a Pirate Day 2022 Dark Seas collection arrived! Each week since it launched, we've updated the gear in Quibble's Rares Shop + Collection Chest with new items. ** The boss mechanic has to keep up all of the player data in sync, which means it increases the load exponentially with the # of players in the room.

**** This set was one of the winning designs by the 2021 TLaPD Set Design contest. The other winning sets will be released in-game this year, but are not a part of the collection chest, and will not go rare.

Hurricane Ian + Donation Efforts

AE Team Status: Safe and Secure

Thank you to everyone who sent messages with wishes of safety and to check in on our Florida team members. I am writing to give you a status update. Our hearts go out to everybody affected by Hurricane Ian, both in Cuba, Florida, and any other areas in its future path. While the storm is over for us, here, it is still heading north, and its impact is not over yet. We are making a donation to local relief efforts* to help recover from the storm.

Everyone on the team is alright. The storm turned and hit considerably south of us, the left side -- which is the far less dangerous side. We are checking in on individual team members (and their relatives, our AE extended family). So far, everyone we have heard from has had to deal with power outages and mild to moderate clean-up, at most. Currently we have about 50% of our Florida staff without power.

If you didn't know, almost all of the AQ3D team lives in the Tampa Bay area. Several of our AQ3D team members evacuated to make sure they and their families stayed safe. Because of this, the AQ3D game update was delayed, and we added an XP boost instead.

An overwhelming majority of other team members (AQWorlds, AQ, DF, ED) live outside of Florida. Those game releases will proceed as planned.

Thank you again to everyone who reached out. It means a great deal that you care. We will continue to keep you posted with any new developments about the team status and AQ3D release as we move forward.

October Seasonal Set: ChronoStriker

Available every year from October 1st - 31st

Every October, we celebrate the anniversary of AQWorlds' launch. This month, we're showcasing a set that pays homage to the origin of your hero... and their future. AQWorlds was created when Galanoth the DragonSlayer killed the Eternal Dragon of Time* and the 3 original timelines** merged. Starting this Saturday, October 1st, at 12:01 AM EST, unlock the full set and character page badge when you buy the full pack, or talk to Garek in Battleon to get individual set pieces.

October Set: ChronoStriker

The Eternal Dragon of Time rules over the past, present, and future. The ChronoStriker armor will enable you to strike at your enemies regardless of the timeline they inhabit.

There are two ways to get the gear:

1) Total package: Buy the entire set directly through the website for $9.99 USD

2) Individually: Buy each of the individual pieces from Garek the Traveling Gear Merchant in Battleon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the monthly upgrade bonus?

Monthly upgrade bonus gear is an extra reward for buying AdventureCoin or Membership packages. Seasonal set packs are bought separately. Just like the Flame Dragon Warrior pack, you can buy the entire set directly, for one price, on our site. You can ALSO buy the individual pieces in-game.

This set will return EVERY October, so if you can't get it now, you'll have another chance in upcoming years.

What if I just want ONE of the items?

You're in luck! Talk to Garek in Battleon. He'll be selling the individual pieces of the set through October 31st.

Where do I get my gear if I buy the full set through the website?

You'll find it in your Book of Lore.

* To see this in-game, /join thespan and play through the 10th Chaos Lord's story, Iadoa the Chronomancer. Your hero may experience deja vu upon seeing the Eternal Dragon of Time. It is perfectly normal. Do not be alarmed.

AQWorlds Game Moderator Call

Want To Help Make AQW a Safe & Friendly Game?

Our in-game moderators, bug hunters, and testers are amazing... and more, they all started as members of our player community! They joined our corps of contributors* to make the game and community better for everyone. Starting today, we're looking for some fresh new faces to join the game moderator team. Our emphasis for this hunt is on mods who speak other languages (in addition to English).

Status Update

Mod application update: we're still reviewing the first batch. We've got about 30 applications set aside to look more closely at. I would expect we can start reaching out to the first batch sometime next month.

Like last time, we'll reach out to the first group of people we'd like to talk to, but will hang on to all of the applications. Once we've talked to and trained the first group, we'll go back to the applications to find the next group.

We're working on updating some mod guidelines and our "new team member" experience. How quickly we can reach out to the first group of mods depends on how quickly I can finish some of these team review projects I want to finish first, plus we need to make progress on all our October AE / AQW events.

Who are Game Mods and what do they do?

Game moderators are the heroes you see with the gold name.
They read and take action on in-game reports.
They help keep the game safe for everyone.

Here are a few things you should know before you apply:

You must be at least 18 years old to apply and participate, no exceptions.
You must provide a valid email address when signing up so we can contact you.
If accepted, you'll create a new, unique identity for your AE team member persona, and you'll moderate using that account.

We are also looking for new mods that speak languages besides English, especially Tagalog, Portuguese, Spanish. Not bilingual? Don't worry! You can still apply.

Important qualities for moderators:

Be fair, honest, and willing to ask for guidance and input
Be eager to serve and improve the community

If you like helping people, love AdventureQuest Worlds, and think you'd make a good in-game moderator... we want to hear from you!

Reminders and FAQs

1) How will you contact me if my application is accepted?
By email. Please make sure you can access the email attached to your AQW game account.

2) How many hours do I need to mod?
There is no minimum # of hours a week. We ask that mods be on regularly while active but modding should be a fun extracurricular activity. A couple hours a week at most, and should not take away from real life obligations like school or work.

3) Do I need to change my name? Really?
If you become a game mod, you'll use a new AE staff identity + get a staff account to use for moderating. Your staff account will get membership + ACs. Your current game account/s will remain as-is... but will get a few bonus gifts.

4) What if I got banned or muted in the past?
We know people make mistakes, and grow and change over time. Those are all looked at on a case-by-case basis, but a ban or mute won't automatically disqualify you.

* Dage, J6, Ghost, Tomix, Lae, and Sora (plus many more of our staff) all joined the AE team after finding the games and playing as regular members of the community... and you can, too!

The Story So Far: The Sea Witch's Treasure...

Last week, we released part 1 of our TLaPD 2022 holiday event story in /lowtide. You and your fellow heroes had to battle alongside Captain Rhubarb to recover an ancient artifact from a powerful Sea Witch bent on revenge. AQWorlds Updates: Sept 15th

News from around Lore (and Social Media)

Several of the winning sets from last year's TLaPD 2021 Pirate Set contest, announced to arrive this year, have not yet been created. We are still planning for most of them to release in some way this year!

One of the sets was found to be too closely modeled on art from another game, and will not be added into AQWorlds. Thank you to Twitter Hero nrhaleav for the heads up about the similarities.

Bido is currently translating the rest of the winning sets into Flash. Not all of them will be exclusive to the collection chest. At least one will be available all year long, by farming. Check out this "work in progress" shot of where he's at with Shy / Emulon's set!

Deep Sea Denizen Art Preview

The water making up Deep Sea elementals is dark, frigid, and stagnant. Their eyes and gems are milky-white and blind. The water is cold, devoid of the nutrient-rich life you see swimming closer to the surface. Encounter them this weekend... if you dare.

Beleen is back!?!?

A whole heck of a lot of pink text, excessive punctuation, and spoiler alerts ahead

OMG hi everyone! It has beleen a long time, hasn’t it? *tehehe* I am simply overcome with joy writing up my FIRST Design Notes post in like... 7 years! 👀

Despite aging myself – and perhaps you too – it makes me super happy knowing that you’re here reading this alongside me. So many warm fuzzy feels no matter if you’re a long-time fan or a justifiably-confused newbie; I love making new friends and seeing all my AQW besties once again! <3

Excitement abounds with every click of the keyboard as I wildly write these DNs. I don’t know where to start… nor do I know when to end lol… so let’s dive in because there’s A LOT going on and even more coming soon, and, unlike my unbridled enthusiasm, time AND coffee is running out!

But first…

Who is Beleen?

Talking about herself in third person is not something Beleen normally does, but in case you’re new here, Beleen is Lore’s peppiest Pinkomancer who helped write the original AQWorlds storyline ✨ From the 13 Lords of Chaos to Friday the 13th events to hundreds of weekly releases, crazy contests, far too many puns, and some REALLY weird stuff like Derp Fish and Taco Day, I am honored to have contributed to the history (and the humor!) of Artix Entertainment.

Also: pink everything. That’s my thing – obviously.

Now that you’re sorta caught up, let’s chow down on some juicy spoilers, nom nom.

Spoiler Alert #1

If you’ve been on Twitter, Reddit, or YouTube lately (orrrr if you read the title of this post), you’ve probably heard that “Beleen is back OMG!!!” I am happy to report that THIS rumor IS true :D Artix called me up 6 months ago and he was like

🎉 “Our 20th Anniversary is this October, want to help me write up an awesome release?”

🤩 and I was like, “YAAAASSSS!”

⏰ and then he got busy, and then I got busy, and then we were like

🤯 “Oh snap it’s already August!” and we’ve been working on the Anniversary ever since.

💝 It’s been a labor of love + hardcore nostalgia & non-stop insanity writing up this event, scribing every sentence for NPCs, quest descriptions, map layouts, item lists, and cutscene scripts, unleashing 7 years of suppressed puns all at once and all in one place.

🍑 But!! Will you be able to handle the hilarity!? We’ll find out soon enough…

Spoiler Alert #2

Artix’s 20th Anniversary Event is scheduled to begin Friday, October 7, 2022, and DUH of course you’re invited! I don’t know what all I *can* reveal regarding all the fun that will unfold, but it’s prolly safe to say that there will be:

Speaking of… before Artix, Alina, and I sat down to iron out the Anniversary deets, I had crafted 4 story ideas as potential mini segments for the event. But when Alina showed my proposals to the AQW team, the Devs LOVED my ideas so much that they wanted ALL my stories to be their own standalone releases! Many exclamation marks later and lots of spilled coffee means that 4 more of my stories will be coming soon to AdventureQuest Worlds!!!

I just hope my first release won’t be too much of a… birden.

OKAY it’s back to work for me!

I’m sure it’s *abundantly clear* how excited I am, and it’s all thanks to players like YOU! Y’all got me feelin’ like it’s 2009 again – which was, without a doubt, the beginning of the greatest adventure in my life: that’s when I started writing for AQWorlds, that’s when I joined the Artix Entertainment family, that’s when I met so many amazing heroes, and that’s when I finally found *home.*

…and lots of homework, to be perfectly honest :p Totally worth it tho!
