Shadow Walker of Time Class Skills

What IS a Shadow Walker of Time, you ask? Good question! These intrepid, timely explorers can step into a shadow in one time-stream and emerge from a completely different shadow in another time stream. 

ShadowWalkers of Time gain mana when they:

• Strike an enemy in combat (more effective on crits)
• Dodge any attack (restores HP as well)

Rift of Shadows 

Applies Chaos Rift, which is used for other abilities. Each attack also affects you and your opponent's sight, lowering your opponent's Hit Chance by 3% while increasing yours by 3%. If Temporal Eclipse is active, each attack will affect you and your opponent's Focus, lowering your opponent's Dodge Chance by 3% while increasing yours by 3%. Both stack to 5 and last for 10 seconds.

Cooldown: 1.5 Seconds
Range: Melee
Type: Physical

50% Weapon Damage

A strong defensive skill that takes a short while to build up. Your opponents will struggle to land a hit with their Hit Chance reduced by 15%. If you’re in Temporal Eclipse mode it will further your defensive ability with increased dodge chance. Considering you lack consistent heal, this will be vital to keeping your health in check.

Exude/Devour

Strikes at the blink of an eye, causing up to 2 opponent's existence to slowly fade. Deals moderate damage and applying a moderate DoT for 6 seconds. If Temporal Eclipse is up, shreds the opponent and feeds off their shadows. Deals moderate damage and applying a moderate HoT to the caster for 6 seconds.

Mana: 15
Cooldown: 6 seconds
Range: Far
Type: Physical/Magical

150% Weapon Damage

Your bread and butter skill. Helps get the damage train going and applies your only heal while you have Temporal Eclipse. Not to be overlooked.

Vendetta/Umbral Stigma

 Marks your opponents, dealing Moderate damage and increasing the damage the target takes from all sources by 20% for 10 seconds. If Temporal Eclipse is active, singles the target out, recording their being in that point of time dealing Moderate Damage. After a short moment, echoes the damage based off the damage you have done in the past 10 seconds.

Mana: 30
Cooldown: 6 seconds
Range: Fullscreen
Type: Physical/Magical

100% Weapon Damage

This class is strongest vs a single opponent and Vendetta is the reason why. A 20% damage boost vs all sources means you’ll be a hit at parties and the opponent will be taking hits like a pinata.

Silhouette/Shadow Warp

Sacrifices your life force to constantly warp through the shadows, increasing your dodge by 300% for 4 seconds and dealing damage to up to 3 foes while focusing their attacks onto you. If Temporal Eclipse is active, strikes from the opponent's shadows for Moderate Damage to up to 3 enemies and healing 30 mana after 2 seconds to the caster. Costs health after 2 seconds.

Cooldown: 12 seconds
Range: Status/Fullscreen
Type: Physical/Magical

Deals 380% of your attack power as damage to self after 2 seconds

180% Weapon Damage dealt to opponent

You lack heal, we get that, but this class isn’t about healing. It’s about being in the shadows, dodging, lurking, striking fast and hard and when it’s least expected. 300% dodge for 4 seconds. You’re practically invincible to everything. In PvP, if you know your opponent well, hit this right before their big nuke, slip into the shadows and come back blades a blazin’.

Neverending Dusk: Increases Endurance by 25%

Harbinger of Shadows: Increases Damage Output, Crit Rate, and Crit Damage by 12%

Temporal Eclipse

 Emits total darkness applying Shadowed state, lowering up to 3 opponent's Hit Chance and negating their Crit Chance by 30% for 5 seconds. You access new abilities as you warp through the shadows applying Temporal Eclipse, increasing your hit and crit chance by 80%. Lasts 5 seconds. If Chaos Rift is up, applies Turbulent Rift, doubling your haste but increasing the damage you take by 20% for 5 seconds.

Cooldown: 15 seconds
Type: Physical/Magical
Range: Fullscreen

Your ‘berserk mode’. Hit this and get ready to spam your skills. Use Shadow Warp to replenish mana, Devour to heal up and Umbral Stigma to deal the killing blow! Be careful though, as you will almost definitely have Chaos Rift up (unless you open with Temporal Eclipse *hint*). That means you’ll be taking 20% more damage from all sources for 5 seconds. Hit Devour often for that sweet heal and make sure your autos are landing to get the dodge buff to neutralize any additional damage you would be taking.

Shadows of Time

Rarely freezes up to 3 opponents in their Shadows while increasing your ability to warp increasing your Speed for a short time.

Server Rewrite Update, November 2016

We have come so far since 2015!

Hello everyone! As we are coming to the end of 2016, I wanted to go over how far we've come with the new server and what is left to do. If you are just joining us, welcome! You've come at an exciting time -- we have spent the last almost-two years completely rebuilding the game to make it better, more exciting, and give the dev team more flexibility for updates.

GOOD NEWS: the server has been completely rewritten and done for several months!

Less-good-but-still exciting news: The client is done EXCEPT for the changes we need to make based on the bugs you guys are finding.

YAY! Server's done! So... Why Isn't it Live?!

Good question! Before we get into why the server rewrite isn't live, let's define some terms:

Game Server: This is the backbone of AQWorlds. It's like the engine of the car. It's what makes the game run, and you never see it in your normal, day-to-day use of the car (/game).

Game Client: This is every part of the car that isn't the engine - the breaks, seats, steering wheel, etc. It's what lets you interact with AQWorlds and its server.

Login Server: The servers you see when you log in are like the doors of a car. They let you get into the car, sit down, put the key in the ignition, and go. (This is not 100% correct, but for everyone without a computer science degree, this should be pretty close... given our current analogy.)

New Game Server: This is the new, rebuilt, much more flexible game game server.  

New Game Client: This is the new, rebuilt, much more flexible game client, that only works with the new game server.

Got that? Good! When we say "server rewrite" what we are actually talking about is a more complicated, two-piece rebuild. We have had to build both the game server AND the game client. Initially, we did not realize just HOW completely the game client would also need to change... but earlier this year, we realized that we needed to completely rebuild the game client in order to go forward with the new game server.

"So why couldn't we get the server rewrite first, THEN re-do the client?"

This is also a good question, and it has an easy answer! Because of how comprehensive the game server changes are, the old game client was not compatible. 

Using our car analogy, it would be like trying to combine an electric blender's motor with the body of a new car. They just wouldn't work together. 

"Ok. But this has taken a long time. Longer than you said it would!"

That's very true. In the spirit of complete disclosure, we did not think it would take nearly this long to finish. Yorumi, AQW's lead coder, has had to completely rebuild the game server and client* using a language he was still gaining experience in. This was both a HUGE undertaking and a vital learning experience, but it was something we needed to do to keep AQWorlds alive.  

Now that we've spent so much time on it, we don't want to release something underwhelming or unfinished - that wouldn't be fair to you guys, or to the amount of time and effort the devs have put into the rebuild.

What's next, and how long will it take to finish?

We *need* your help to continue finding bugs, testing fixes, and rooting out any hidden issues. Our testers are AMAZING and INCREDIBLE people, but they are still only human (... for now?! O_O) and they need sleep, have real world responsibilities, and cannot be online and testing 24/7. That's why we need YOU, the many heroes of Lore, to log into Zorbak and Safiria testing servers and keep playing the game, finding bugs, and reporting them.

Note: Because of how incompatible the old and new game servers are, you will experience issues bouncing back and forth between them. We are aware of this, but are focusing on fixing the new game client bugs (rather than making the old and new servers compatible) so we can release everything.

2 months ago, we set ourselves a due date of "before Thanksgiving" to launch the new server and client. We are not going to make that in time, in part because of all the bugs you guys have found, but also because...

Yorumi is getting married!

Yorumi is getting married next week and we do NOT want to interrupt his special day and honeymoon afterwards. Thanks to your remarkably intense testing, in the last few weeks we've gotten more bug reports than in the first 6 months! This is AWESOME, but it does push our deadline back, so we do not have Yorumi coding at the altar.

Expect another update once he has returned, but in the meantime... keep testing! That is what will help us release as bug-free a new server and client as possible. For now, HUGE /cheers to Yorumi and Mrs. Yorumi!

(And yes, there will be at LEAST a wedding cake pet AND the eternal flame in his wedding colors)

TRIPLE server boost: ACTIVE!

Concentrating More Players onto Testing Servers

To help concentrate players onto the testing server, over the next few days, we will sporadically be turning on a TRIPLE boost to XP, Rep, Gold, and Class Points on the following servers:

• Zorbak
• Safiria

The boosts will be active for a couple hours at a time as we monitor the data. Log on and battle, and once you see the Server Message saying the boost is active, call all your friends and let's fill the servers as MUCH as possible!

The Nythera, Alina, and Cysero testing servers have been hidden to help concentrate player populations onto these servers.

The boost will return Sunday afternoon. Watch these Design Notes and my Twitter for boost status announcements.

Limited Time Rare Drop... only on the test servers!

If the triple boost isn't enough incentive for you to log onto the test servers... now you've got a RARE ITEM! Enter Zorbak or Safiria servers until Tuesday and battle the Lesser Groglurk in /marsh2 for a chance to get the Black Blood Blade until Tuesday!

Update: right now, there is a bug on the testing servers (thanks for finding it, guys!) with reward drops - the rewards are not dropping for everyone in a room at the same time. This bug will be fixed on Monday.

You *can* still keep farming for a chance to get the drop, but because of the bug, we will extend the leave date until Friday.

This Friday: Shadowfall Under Attack

The Infernal Invasion Saga Continues as we head to Shadowfall!

Join us this weekend as the Queen’s army of invaders attacks their biggest, deadliest target yet - Shadowfall! Battle to help Empress Gravelyn and Princess Victoria complete their plans AND defend her fortress as it's overrun by a flood of infernals!

This weekend, if you're up to date on the Infernal Invasion Saga, /join shadowfallinvasion to begin OR get caught up by looking at the AdventureMap in your game menu!

Shadowfall MUST rise again if you, Gravelyn, and the Shadowscythe army are to help the rest of the world! Gravelyn's scouts tell her that the damage in Darkovia has been severe. The vampires have gone to ground across the Sea of Darkness and the Lycsn tribes have scattered across the lab. 

Battle the boss and other mobs for a chance to unlock reward gear!

Infernal Invasion Finale in December

This week's release is the next-to-last chapter of the Infernal Invasion sstoryline - the final chapter will take place next month, in Swordhaven. But do not think the story ends there! We have been using the Infernal Invasion as a bridge into the completely-rewritten Queen of Monsters main storyline. THAT will begin early next year as we travel to TWO new hub towns - Drakath's lair... and the Queen's basecamp, where here infernal army is headquartered.

Then, and ONLY then, will you be able to join Drakath's Chaos faction or decide to fight FOR the Queen of Monsters. IF you do choose to join her horde, you will be able to rank up the queen's faction and unlock all the different armors (and ranks) inside the Infernal Army. (Including Lord Balax'el's!)

Celebrate Dia de Los Muertos

Join us this weekend for the Feast of the Dead!

The townspeople of Darkovia live in perpetual twilight surrounded by lycans, vampires, ghouls, and ghosts. They live with death and the undead on a daily basis... so it only makes sense that they would want to celebrate the memories of those they've known and loved. And when there's a celebration to be had, there's only ONE person to call to make the feast: Oishii!

But it wouldn't be an AQWorlds release if there weren't SOME need for you, our favorite heroes, to charge into battle! There's trouble afoot, and YOU are needed to help save the feast and lay the troubled spirits of Darkovia to rest!

What IS Dia de Los Muertos, you ask?

GOOD question! The internet tells me:

El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead), a Mexican celebration, is a day to celebrate, remember and prepare special foods in honor of those who have departed. On this day in Mexico, the streets near the cemeteries are filled with decorations of papel picado , flowers, candy calaveras (skeletons and skulls), and parades.

It is believed that the spirit of the dead visit their families on October 31 and leave on November 2.

In order to celebrate, the families make altars and place ofrendas (offerings) of food such as pan de muertos baked in shapes of skulls and figures, candles, incense, yellow marigolds known as cempazuchitl (also spelled zempasuchil) and most importantly a photo of the departed soul is placed on the altar.

It might sound somewhat morbid, but the Mexicans react to death with mourning along with happiness and joy. They look at death with the same fear as any other culture, but there is a difference. They reflect their fear by mocking and living alongside death.

Living alongside death means that Mexicans have to learned to accept it within their lives. Death is apparent in everyday life. It is in art and even in children's toys. It is not respected as it is in other cultures. Children play "funeral" with toys that are made to represent coffins and undertakers.

Death is laughed at in its face. Many euphemisms are used for death, La calaca (the skeleton), la pelona ("baldy"), la flaca ("skinny"), and la huesada ("bony"). There are refranes, sayings, and poems that are popular with day of the dead. These sayings are cliches and lose meaning when translated. For example "La muerte es flaca y no puede conmigo" means "Death is skinny/weak and she can't carry me." Calaveras (skulls) are decorated with bright colors with the name of the departed inscribed on the head. Children carrying yellow marigolds enjoy the processions to the cemetery. At the cemetery, music is played and dances are made to honor the spirits.

Death is a celebration in Mexico. Death is among them.

Hey guys! I'm so glad you're enjoying NostalgiaQuest -- I wanted a reward awesome enough and, for lack of a better word, nostalgic enough, for all our heroes from 2008... and this seemed the best (nay, the only!) thing to do. 

It was a long, crazy, super-full month of birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, and work on things that kept pulling me away from NostalgiaQuest, and I really appreciate everyone's patience as it was built... and as it came down to the wire to release in October. (Servers came back up at 11:57 PM EST... /cheer!) 

Though NostalgiaQuest has been a personal project built almost entirely on the weekends, I can't let it release without giving credit to the many artists, animators, writers, and designers who worked on the game and created the assets used in NostalgiaQuest. And HUGE thanks to Asuka, Zuto, and Rickyb20, who were testing the release until the very, VERY last minute. I still have some rewards to add and a few tweaks to make to the quests (refining drop rates, explaining where to go for some of the rewards*, etc)... but the deadline was made, NostalgiaQuest IS out, and for all our 2008 heroes... enjoy! 

Thank you all so much for having battled alongside us all these years. Without you guys, and the many heroes who came after you (and who will unlock NostalgiaQuest in the future), we would not be here, and could not update the game each week.
