Did someone say, "Living Dungeon Design?"

Sneak-peek at this summer’s blockbuster release

I am writing two (maybe three) releases for AdventureQuest Worlds this summer. Cysero and Beleen are coming back to write special releases too! For this one, Titan Hollow, I wrote a short story about three Titans battle for the tear of a Fairy that turned into an eternal curse. Like the most popular dungeons from Doomwood, this will be a story-crawl adventure with bonus hidden secrets for hard core gamers.

Originally, I wanted to make it a Grimskull dungeon, but for some reason, players hate dying horrific terrible animated deaths over and over again. <_< Not sure why. >_> Really. So instead of animating comical death cutscenes, we will be focusing on heroic acts of how to cleverly get from point A to point B which will provide scores of awesome screenshot worthy moments.

Beware of living dungeons though.... sometimes... they move. O_O

Spoiler Alert: Fable Forest

Introducing Elements & Shapeshifting

This Friday, January 24, 2014, marks the day that your favorite MMORPG introduces Elements into the world of Lore. DragonFable’s famous Shapeshifting NPC, Fae, will guide Legendary Heroes into a new elemental zone: Fable Forest.

Fable Forest is home to the Guardian Tree and the 4 fundamental Elements: Water, Fire, Nature, and Wind. Due to Fae’s unique—yet uncontrollable—Shapeshifting abilities, she will randomly change into a DragonFable-inspired Elemental creature during your quests, which will buff your Attack power, decrease your Attack power, or remain neutral.

If you’re fighting Fire Elementals, and Fae changes into a Water Elemental, you will do an Attack Damage increase!

But… if you’re fighting Water Elementals, and Fae sneezes and changes into a Fire Elemental, then you will do less Attack Damage.

Same thing with Nature and Wind: Wind Element is strong against Nature Elementals, and Nature Elementals will do less damage against Wind Elements.

And if Fae changes into an element that’s neither strong nor weak against the Elementals you’re fighting, you’ll do normal Attack Damage. So if Fae turns into a Fire Elemental, and you’re fighting Wind or Nature Elementals, you’ll do normal Attack Damage.

After you help Fae retrieve the 4 fundamental Elements stones, the portal in the Guardian Tree will open, granting you an acquaintance with the Forest Guardian. Here you will uncover Fae’s mysterious past and how she got her Shapeshifting powers!

It’s Elemental, My Dear Watson

This is only the beginning of Elements in AQWorlds. One of the best features in AdventureQuest & DragonFable is Elemental strengths and weaknesses, which we will slowly and carefully implement into AQWorlds. Only 4 Elements are being introduced this week, but if you wanna get a head start at understanding Elements, then keep on reading!

There are 8 Elements total. Moving clockwise, the Elements are STRONG against the next, so Fire beats Ice, Ice beats Wind, Wind beats Nature, etc.

If you move counterclockwise, Elements are WEAK against the previous, so Fire is weak against Water, Water is weak against Energy, Energy is weak against Nature, etc.

There are 2 Unique Elements not contained within the Elemental wheel: Light and Darkness. Light is strong against Darkness, and Darkness is strong against Light. 

REMEMBER! In Friday’s release, the only Elemental strengths and weaknesses you need to know are:

• Water is STRONG against Fire
• Fire is WEAK against Water
• Wind is STRONG against Nature
• Nature is WEAK against Wind

But we also understand that some of you might be worried about Elementals “changing the game too much.” Do not worry, my friend! As stated earlier, we will slowly and carefully implement Elements into the game. And with your help and suggestions, we will take AQWorlds to a whole new (gaming) level!

Defeating Drakath and the Lord of Chaos is still our Number 1 priority, but we wanted to give you a little sneak-peek at what the Team is planning for you. Elements are AWESOME in AQ and DF, and we hope to bask in that awesomeness in the upcoming future with you =)

Monday Diary

So much fun all week long!

Dear hero, it’s Monday again! And that means it’s time for another Monday Write Up. Allow me to highlight all the fun happening this week in the world’s favorite online adventure game, AdventureQuest Worlds!

Tuesday’s Featured Artist Shop

For the past few months, we have seen the amazing artistic abilities of AQWorlds’ artists in the Featured Artist Showcase Shop. Last week we were blessed with Ven du Viioletmist’s special items, including the Rare Knight of the Leviasea Armor set.

Come tomorrow afternoon, Ven’s shop will disappear to make room for our newest volunteer artist, Roroth! This Drow artist will showcase elite armors, helms, weapons, and more from his personal stash of Drow-exclusive items.

I have the pleasure of meeting with Roroth later on this evening at the local AdventureBucks Coffee shop. Since not much is known about Roroth, I thought I could get him to tell me all his Drow secrets in exchange for a Venti Trobblechino! Mmmmm!

Friday Predictions

Happy Good Luck Day!

It feels good to be green.

FINALLY! I know how Cysero must feel. Being tickled pink green is a good thing… even if it’s only for one day =D

Okay so there’s bunches of stuff going on right now. And since you won’t be blinded by my favorite font color as usual, I’m inviting you to come join me in reading this wonderfully festive DN post!

First thing’s first: wishing Happy Birthdays to our friends and family! Both my mother and my sister are celebrating their bdays today along with Randor the Red’s grandmother and sister! Wow—what an incredibly lucky day!

Hrrrrm… what are the chances of having your birthday on St. Patty’s Day?

“One in 365,” says Cysero.

…Right. Anyone else’s birthday today? If so… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Quibble’s Coming Back to Town!

What wonders will Quibble have in store for us tomorrow evening? Will these items be going Rare? How long will Quibble be staying? No one knows these answers, but the only thing we DO know is that whenever Quibble appears… a Chaos Lord is not too far behind… which brings us to…

The Chaos Beast of the Sandsea

Breaking our lucky streak already? As if Zahart hasn’t already caused enough problems over in the Sandsea… he will on Friday night as you and your friends journey to the legendary Sand Castle.

This large palace withstood the Sandsea’s unruly sandstorm and Zhoom believes this is the last place Zahart is hiding. War Mummies and War Hyenas patrol this ancient temple, forever guarding the greatest deity of the Sandsea: the Sphinx.

The heart of the Sphinx has been lost in the sands of time (literally) so no one knows why Zahart would go after the immobilized creature.

Unless… If Zahart finds a way to awaken the great Sphinx, then… O___O

But HEY! It’s not like anything like that has ever happened before... *cough cough*

As long as you are caught up in the Sandsea storyline and have found yourself a Djinn, you and Zhoom can journey to the Sand Palace to make sure Zahart’s plan at awakening the Sphinx are foiled!

DragonFable’s Lucky Week

Aaaand we’re bringing the good luck back… but this time, it’s outside of AQWorlds! In DragonFable, new features have been added in-game EVERY DAY this week! It’s amazing what miracles can happen when we feed Rolith an obscene amount of caffeine and cereal bars. Mwahaha >:D

In a dragon hatchling-sized summary, a new war mechanic was added on Monday. Tuesday marked the remodeling of a very popular house item: the Armor Closet! Yesterday, DragonFable heroes got unlimited bank storage for every item bought with Dragon Coins. And today, Dragon Amulet holders will be able to show off your fancy achievements on your character pages!

One-Eyed Doll Helps the Japan Tragedy

The recent events in Japan have affected the entire world. Our wonderful friend Kimberly from One-Eyed Doll wants to selflessly help the relief effort. Water Song is dedicated to our beloved Japanese fans and families who have lost so much in this event.

The Cave of Wanders

Sneak-Peek at this week’s release!

It’s Wednesday already?! Geesh, time flies when you’re having pun!

Oh wow… that was pretty bad. My apologies! Let me make it up to you by giving ya a sneak-peek at Friday’s release!

So we last left off with you and Zhoom capturing the immortal god-king Sek-Duat.

BUSTED!

Sek-Duat says that the only way to defeat a Djinn is with another Djinn. And luckily for him, he knows where to find one (I still say we should have handed him over to Zahart but NONONO, I wasn’t the one who wrote the cutscene, hahaha). This Friday, Sek-Duat will lead you and Zhoom to the magical Cave of Wanders where a supposed Djinn resides.

Thought it was difficult navigating through the Pyramids? Just wait until you try to find your way through these caves. Each door leads to a different passageway that will most likely get you lost. It IS called the Cave of Wanders for a reason =D

Sek-Duat says that a magical lamp is hidden in the deepest cavern within the cave. What’s so magical about this lamp, anyway? Energy-efficient light bulb? Made from amber? Houses a Djinn? I don’t know… but we will find out Friday!

We will also uncover new items! Here’s a sneaky-peeky of some new Sandsea gear to get you all hyped up. We’ve researched Hindu mythology and are incorporating this art style into new weapons, armors, and the monsters that will be seen within the Cave of Wanders.

And lookie what Lodarazs made!

It’s a beautiful lotus spider! But heads up: it’s a monster. AND a spider. And those two attributes together make it a MONSTER SPIDER! Ewwewweww kill eett kill eeet kill eeet!

I don’t like spiders. But that one is so lovely I might have to make a one-time exception. Maybe I’ll even have one as an in-game Pet... hmm… ^_____^

Show off ‘dem Badges!

Facebook integration & a sneak peek at this week’s release!

Have you heard about this “Facebook” thing? Apparently it’s a social network site that has taken over the world. And now it’s inside AQWorlds!

Thanks to Minimal’s super fancy pants coding skillz, you can NOW show off all your shiny badges on your Facebook page! It’s simple, it’s free, and it’s available for everyone who loves this MMO. And who has a nice collection of achievement badges inside their Book of Lore.

All you gatta do is click the Settings button on your toolbar. Looks like 3 gray gears. You can’t miss it.

And theeeen you check that red bubble next to the “Facebook” option.

And theeeeeeeeen you open your Book of Lore, click on the Badges section, and begin making your family and friends jealous over your shiny sparkly awesomesauce badges by clicking the Share button!

After you log into your Facebook account (a prompt will appear asking you to do so), that’s all there is to it and it’s time to show off those hard-earned badges! Now, we don’t encourage bragging… but… well… yeaaaah, these badges are wicked cool and everyone deserves to see them =D

Sandsea Saga Expanding: Spoilers Ahead Below!

After your latest encounter with Zahart and his Djinn, Zhoom thinks that the only one who can help is the god-king of the Sandsea, Sek-Duat. Accompany Zhoom as the two of you head to the Sek-Duat Dynasty Pyramids to track down the immortal mummy on Friday!

New fiends, a new minigame, bunches of Sandsea gear, and a cutscene await your arrival inside these ancient pyramids. Lodarazs, the Team’s newest artist and animator, has a sneak peak of an Anubis Guard monster that is dying to meet your acquaintance!

Hey… that guy looks pretty sketchy…

HEY! Now that’s what I’m talking about!

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks and we’re as excited as you are to get back to the Sandsea action. With the return of the Sandsea… I wonder if the Black Market dealer will come back as well? Will he have new items in his shop? Will any of his old loot return?

There is only one way to find out… and Friday can’t possibly come any sooner!

Sneak Peek at the 1st Release of 2011

Arm they pink-protective eyewear and get ready for a massive spoiler regarding Lore’s newest zone, Player Suggestion Shop update, brand-new NPCs, and the fabled discovery of Bupers Camel.

Yesterday was the first Monday of the first week of the first month of the new year. Artix, Cysero, Safiria, Zhoom, Minimal, and I journeyed into the War Room for a little brainstorming session about this week’s release… and that somehow evolved into a 4 and a half hour discussion regarding the amazing new future for AQWorlds! Omgomgomgomg =D

I can’t really tell you what we have in store for you… but keep in mind that it’s HUGE. We know how much you love AQWorlds – and you know how much we love making AQWorlds for you! We listened to your comments and concerns and have come up with many ways to improve your favorite MMO in 2011. Many, many, many, many, many, many, *deep breath* many, many, many, many, many ways!

But let’s not focus on that just yet. There’s still another 361 days left to discuss our new plans. We’ve got a massive NEW release arriving in just a couple of days that I’m sure you wanna get the low-down on. Bring on the spoilers!       

The Sandsea

This week you will travel to Lore’s seemingly endless desert known as the Sandsea. DragonFable heroes should be familiar with this parched paradise full of palm trees, sand dunes, and desert monsters surrounding a prosperous oasis city.

Recently, a very unnatural sandstorm has blown across the Sandsea and revealed that the oasis community was just the center of a much larger town… once devoured by the sands and forgotten by the people. Here you will meet Zhoom the Ranger (and full-time programmer) along with many other oasis inhabitants.           

A Bazaar of new NPCs, Shops, Items and Monsters

Much like the thriving cities of Arcangrove and Mythsong Canyon, the oasis town features many NPCs and Item Vendors. Zhoom is the main NPC and Reputation guy offering you all sorts of necessary Sandsea armors, weapons, and various gear. The town also has a Barber with new hairstyles, a House Item Vendor, a Pet Shop owner, and an Innkeeper who sells consumable food!

Oh yeah, you heard read correctly. Consumable food. Food and drinks you can actually EAT to give you all sorts of different buffs! These will act just like the equipable Scrolls and Potions… but comes in delicious food form! Mmmmmmmmmmm tasty!     

There are also two new baddies making the scene. Since the oasis is just about the only source of fresh water and vegetation in the Sandsea, exploding Cactus Creepers and Bupers Camels have made their way to this desert sanctuary.

…Bupers Camel?

Ah yes, the legendary Bupers Camel. No one knows exactly what a Bupers Camel looks like… or even what it is for that matter… but it’s revealing itself this Friday for the first time ever.

Here’s how Bupers Camel came about, quoted from Cysero himself:  

“I was showing Warlic the Google voice recognition app. You just say what you want to search for and it googles it for you. I played with it quite a bit and it did really well but Warlic held the phone to his head and said "Dissertations on Bruce Campbell" and what came back was "Dissertations Bupers Camel". I don't know what a Bupers Camel is but I think we're going to have to add it as a monster when we add The Sandsea to AQW.”

Currently, Bupers Camel is a mythical beast that has been used in newbie trickery. Veteran heroes convince new players that catching a Bupers Camel in Greenguard Forest will grant them Mod Status.

Psh, that doesn’t even look like a Mod. At all. Where’s the gold name?

Please note that a Bupers Camels does not look like that. Or wait...maybe it does? I don’t know, I’ve never seen one myself. Gatta love our creative players out there -- thanks Loki Bloodstone!

Player Suggestion Shop

Because releasing a whole new zone with all the amenities isn’t enough, we are even expanding the Player Suggestion Shop in Yulgar’s Inn. There are already 40+ masterpieces in this shop created by your fellow players… and we will be adding a whole lot more Friday!

You never know if your idea will be put in game… but there is only one way to find out! Head to the forums and submit your awesome weapon, armor, or helm, cape, or pet idea!

A quick reminder! This is the last week to get Quibble’s Items and all of the items from the Big Red Bag and Tinsel’s quests! Quibble and the rest will be leaving town this Friday, January 7^th, so make sure you pay them a visit before then.
