This Weekend: Draco*Con 2016

Whaaaat? I thought it was DRAGON*CON?!

You thought right! Every year, some of our team members attend Dragon*Con in Atlanta, Georgia! This year, Artix, Cysero, Dage the Evil, and Stryche will be attending... But we know that not all of YOU can come, too... so Zorbak offered to hold Draco*Con while they were away!

A new band was formed JUST for Draco*Con... called DragonROARS! (If you love heavy metal and/or are familiar with the band DragonForce, you will LOVE the track Ghost made for this release... inspired by some of their music! You can listen to our track here!)

Now, we know Zorbak likes to make trouble... but seriously! With Tropical Storm Hermine bearing down on the secret underground lab... it's like he can't leave well enough alone. It's not enough that he gets his OWN convention, he has to make sure that Artix, Cysero, Dage, Zazul, and Stryche have to battle to get to THEIRS!

Dragon*Con Starts This Friday

CON STARTS THIS WEEK!!! This is one of my favorite AE traditions. I have been going to DragonCon for years and getting to meet up there with some of our most diehard fans is always a great experience. We've have had people come from England and even as far away as New Zealand just to attend our now legendary DragonCon panels! 

THE AQ3D 2016 PANEL!

• WHEN: Saturday, September 3rd, 2:30-3:30 PM

• WHERE: Westin Hotel, Ballrooms E-G

This year, it will be Artix, Dage, Stryche and me and we will be talking about AQ3D. We will be giving secret info and spoilers about what we're working on and what we have planned for the game, and giving away a few Closed Beta keys that will work for either the Steam or Android versions of the game! 

There will be no fan table again this year, but we'll be running around the con so don't be afraid to say hi and give us a high five in the hallway. A LOT of the famous people at con will sign something for you if you pay them, but lucky for YOU we're NOT FAMOUS AT ALL! All you have to do is give us a marker. We will sign ANYTHING. I mean that. Artix and I signed a dude's neckback in 2011.

WAIT...WHAT IS DRAGONCON?

Quite a few people don't know what DRAGONCON is so we should probably cover that first.

Since 1987 people have been coming to Atlanta, Georgia (roughly 8 hours drive from The Secret Underground Lab) for DragonCon which has become one of the largest Sci-Fi, Fantasy conventions in the world. They say that they get about 40,000-45,000 people every year but it's closer to 65,000 or 70,000 and every year, it keeps growing.

This is the floor of just ONE of the SEVEN hotels that make up DragonCon and this is just at midnight on opening night! 

There is so much to see that it can actually short out your brain. it happened to me on my first year. When I got back my friends asked me how it was and I actually needed a few days to process all that I had seen and done, heard and tasted, battled and escaped from before I could talk to them about it.

There are panels about everything from making your own functional steampunk R2-D2, to meet-and-greets with some of the biggest names in TVs, Movies, Gaming and Books. There are thousands of people dressed up as their favorite characters, movie marathons, a sea of tables for table top games like Dungeons and Dragons, card games like Pokémon, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh, board games like Risk, Settlers of Catan and King of Tokyo. There are several WAREHOUSE sized rooms stocked to the gills with Attack On Titan Jackets and titan skinsuits, Lightsabers, Steampunk Goggles, Nerdy T-shirts, Comic Books, Video Games, Card Games, Board Games and other types of game, Art and anything else you can imagine for sale. There are nightly raves, Firefly themed shindigs, vampire masquerade balls and a constant stream of Concerts featuring people like Voltaire, I Fight Dragons, and One-Eyed Doll... and, of course, our own Artix Entertainment Fan Panel.

Sure, sometimes you have to share an elevator with a dalek, but we're all here for fun.  

We are a small company with a small but loyal fan base who keep showing up no matter how awful the panel was the year before. In fact, they keep giving us bigger rooms and better time-slots every single year.

At the panel we get to meet and hang out with some of our biggest fans, we talk about what is coming up, have a question and answer session, and Artix usually shows some movies that he's made over the past year. In the past we've had some amazing panels including a fight between Artix, Chairman Platinum and Sepulchure himself fighting surrounded by screaming AE fans cheering Artix on. A few people even stepped in front of our friendly paladin to protect him from the DoomKnight. The people running the room were AMAZED by how excited our players got compared to the other panels on the Gaming and MMO tracks. We even have special guests! Voltaire has shown up and even played a few songs in a surprise concert for his AE fans before.

And Oh yeah... can't forget about the Artix Panel Item! Every year we come up with some ideas for a special item for people who made the long trek out to visit us. It's traditionally been an AQW item but with so much AQ3D hype we might have a vote during the panel about AQW vs. AQ3D!

NOTE: WE DO NOT RUN DRAGONCON! AE has nothing to do with the set-up or funding of the convention. We just attend like everyone else. It's an institution in Atlanta and has been held there for the last quarter century so asking us to have it in YOUR hometown next year is impossible on every level. This is also the closest, biggest convention that we can get to. We would LOVE to come to the convention in your town or in your country but we simply can't afford to travel that far.

Cysero's Con Survival Guide! (revised 2016 edition)

DragonCon starts NEXT WEEKEND and, as has become tradition, I am imparting my knowledge and experience to you all. This year I've decided to break it down into ESSENTIAL items for survival and another area for GOOD IDEA items! This is Cysero's Con Survival Guide '16!

---------------------------------- ESSENTIAL SURVIVAL ITEMS! ----------------------------------

• A Large Bag.
  
  You're going to to be carrying a LOT of stuff around with you and picking up a lot of stuff as you con so a large bag is necessary. And when I say bag I DO NOT mean a large plastic grocery bag. I mean a sturdy courier bag or backpack. I will be bringing my N7 Canvas courier bag, hardened for con survival.

• A Towel.
  
  Your hotel room will probably come equipped with these but I always prefer to bring a large, beach-sized towel with me wherever I go. Hitchikers listed most of the uses, but for a more practical example: I have fallen asleep in the hallways of more than one convention hotel and it's always nice to have a towel for a blanket or pillow.

• Bottle Of Water.
  
  You may not starve but you might dehydrate. The floor can get HOT with that many people and Atlanta is not a cool place this time of year. Also good for waking up wierdos who are sleeping in the hallways of your hotel under beach towels. I speak from experience. Note: There are plenty of free places to fill up your bottle in the hallways of the various Con hotels.
  

• Smartphone or Tablet + Charger (Backup Battery Pack is AWESOMELY HANDY).
  
  This one has become a given because who doesn't carry around their phone now? You can show us how well AQ3D runs on your Android phone or tablet and get the DragonCon App that has maps and schedules! Con gives out paper schedules and you might want a hard-copy verion for novelty or because you're a hispter or Luddite, but you'll lose it.
  
  Everyone has something to charge now so finding an open power outlet can be a real challenge but just like you never know when you will get to eat, the same goes for your phone. Finding a free place to plug in is hard but carrying a backup power pack for your phone is SO easy. 

• Good Walking Shoes.

  Trust me. Even if you're just going for one day... good shoes. 

---------------------------------- GOOD IDEA ITEMS! ----------------------------------

You never know what you'll run into at con. Be prepared.

• Extra Strength Energy Shots.
  
  You know, those little bottles of energy booster that they sell everywhere. These things are not great for you, but caffeine and sugar have no effect on MY metabolism unless delivered in MASSIVE doses and you might be built the same way. Con goes day and night, all weekend long. And it's a holiday weekend. I consider them a necessity during Con. We can sleep when we're dead. 

• Energy Bars.
  
  Meals come unpredictably during con and staying alive can be hard. You never know when you'll be stuck at a table-top gaming session that lasts 14 hours straight... and if you leave the brutal GM will just kill you.
  

• Multi-Vitamins.
  
  There are thousands of people from all over the world at con and many of them have brought strange, exotic diseases with them. All these diseases mingle together and become some sort of super-flu affectionately called "Con Rot" that WILL infect you. Keeping your body's defenses up during con severely reduces the time and number of limbs you will lose to the Con Rot after you leave the convention.

• Hand Sanitizer.
  
  See above.

• Cash (Well Hidden).
  
  As you explore the convention you WILL encounter some stuff you NEED to own. Swords, pithy shirts, novels, William Shattner selling autographs... and there is a 50% chance that the thing you want to buy, you can't buy with plastic. If you plan on falling asleep in a hall somewhere, be sure that your cash is in your sock or in the secret pocket in your boxers, or cloak... you don't want to wake up broke.

• A Good Friend.

  The buddy system is always a good idea. That's why I usually bring Alces. He's my best friend and I've known him since middle school. He's part Dr. Gonzo, part Chief Medical Officer and part Tech Support. If you have a friend who has been before and can show you around the ever changing paths of the convention, bonus.

• Glow Sticks or a Dance Party App.

  In 2010 Alces and I accidentally found ourselves in a mobile rave. One guy was wearing the sound system and power supply on his back and his two friends were each wearing giant speakers converted into backpacks. The party never stopped moving. Alces and I took a chance, caught a cab, went to an all night market and bought $44 worth of glowsticks to give to share with our fellow mobile partiers. We were gone about 4 minutes, but when we returned to the street corner, they had moved on. We spent the next hour following the sound of those booming speakers until we caught up. If on'y we'd had the glow sticks on us.

• A Zorbak Plushy.

  It's the ultimate ice-breaker. "Can I get a picture of you holding this guy, please?" "Sure... what is he?".

• An Umbrella or Poncho.

• In 2011 the Venture Brothers panel line was long enough that it went outside the hotel and Alces and I found ourselves in the middle of a rain storm. With all of the weather coming from Tropical Storm Isaac headed toward Atlanta just in time for con. I suggest packing weather protection. A poncho will fit in your bag but an unmbrella makes you look swanky if you rock it right.

• Duct Tape (DUCK TAPE).

  This is just something you should have all the time anyway, BUT there are a LOT of people in a LOT of costumes and things start falling apart on day one. A well timed piece of duct tape can make you a lot of friends very quickly.

That should be, more or less, everything that you need to pack. Other options include: clean clothes, costumes, things you want autographed, video camera, your Battleon Battle Card deck (teach a stranger how to play!), a map of the con (some of us like getting lost), a pair of scissors (for a lock of Kevin Sorbo's hair while he's passed out in a fountain somewhere), a sketchbook (for ideas), a steampunk R2 unit, 8 channel programmable remote control, Sonic Screwdriver, or grappling hook... just cause.

Feel the power through your veins!

Heya guys, it’s Sync. I like to thank Arklen for going through the development of this Class with me. He did awesome on the animations and icons. As well as finding the proper coding to make this Class possible, very complex and unique and definitely in it’s own category. Scarlet Sorceress a Troll Spellsmith variant, focusing on AoE heavy sustaining tactics. This Class that excels in crucial focus on your Blood Count and Mana count. This Class is all about sustaining, one mistake in your rotations will be your doom. This Class has a VERY high skill cap, granting pro players and PvPers something new and something to be proud of. This Class is good for farming mediocre monsters with excellent sustain and strong reliable damage.

Scarlet Sorceress Skill Breakdown!

Mana Regeneration: Scarlet Sorceress’s mana regen is like your normal caster. Gaining mana by doing damage, more on crits, this is relative to your HP total. More simple way of understanding, more health more mana.

Stats: This Class is a Caster, focusing on your Intellect stat will grant you the best results, more Spell Power to have more damage, and heal more as well.

Auto Attack: Blood Lust 

2.3 Second Cooldown 

You thirst for blood forces you to constantly seek it. Your weapon is imbued with scarlet sorcery and drains blood with each strike. The magic weakens your weapon's effectiveness causing it to deal 40% damage but heals you with each strike. The heal is increased as your health dwindles and your thirst for blood gets greater.

This is a very unique Auto Attack, you deal significantly less damage than other Classes, but you heal on hit. As your health lowers, your healing with each strike will get stronger. This helps with sustaining on really low HP.

Rank 1: Sanguine Pulse

10 Second Cooldown

Lowers your blood count to emit a wave of blood dealing Moderate Damage up to 3 enemies. Regains some of your your spilled blood a couple of moments after casting, made stronger by stacks of Crimson Ritual. Also applies Decay, Cannot Heal to your foes for 6 seconds. (Costs 10% of Max Health)

This is one of your damaging/sustaining skills. Costs 10% of your max health but after a few moments it regens your spilled blood back, with stacks of Crimson Ritual, you will exceed the cost of this skill as you stack it up. 

Rank 2: Mirroring Arcane

25 Mana, 8 Second Cooldown

Blasts adaptive magic energy hitting up to 3 targets, dealing Escalating Weapon Damage. Applies Hypothermia, lowering their haste for 6 seconds. Saps their haste, applying Hyperthermia, increasing yours by 20% for 6 seconds. This effect is buffed by Crimson Ritual. Has a 40% chance of stunning enemies for 3 seconds.

This is one of the two skills that cost mana, solid aoe dealing more damage with each bounce, excels fight high amount of enemies. The starts off very low, but it increases drastically with stacks of Crimson Ritual, as well as your damage. Sapping their haste is what makes this skill valuable, lowering the cooldowns of your other skills as well.

Rank 3: Malevolence 

35 Mana, 15 Second Cooldown

Absorbs all life force around you, preparing a massive attack. Applies Wrath of the Blood Mage on the user and up to 3 hostile targets, Heals you while mirroring some of the healing on to your enemies. After a few moments, unleashes Cataclysmic Spell Damage to all your foes while mirroring some of the damage back on yourself. Can't Miss but can't Crit.

This is your last resort spell. Focusing on the mirror aspect of the class and the sheer rage of the beauty taken from, heals you but mirrors some of the healing on to the enemies, after a short moment deals heavy damage but mirrors some of the damage back on you. This ties with Sanguine Pulse, having the ability to negate their healing while they become engulfed in your rage.

Rank 4: Bad Blood & Curse of the Beautiful

Increases Damage Output by 12% & Increases Healing by 25% but lowers your Endurance by 10%

Simple increasing your overall damage and healing done, making you deal more, and sustain more. Lowering your Endurance ties in with Scarletta and her curse, slightly lowering your Endurance will lower the costs of your skills comparing to having that 10% Endurance back.

Rank 5: Crimson Ritual

5 Second Cooldown

Lowers your blood count to empower yourself, granting you new awaken abilities. Applies Vermilion Pact, increasing your Healing by 20%, Arcane Pact, increasing your Spell Damage by 50%, and Mirroring Pact, increasing your Damage Resistance by 10%. All pacts last for 18 seconds and stack to 5. (Costs 10% of Max Health)

Very similar to troll Spellsmith Weakness Sigil. Instead of healing you, this skill costs health. All Pacts are crucial to the Class’s kit, increasing your overall damage, Healing, and Damage Resistance to deal more, tank more, and heal more. 

Rank 10: Titanic Bloodline

Once in a great while, you tap the full potential of your powerful blood and greatly increase your damage output, damage resistance and haste for a short time.

Same as Blood Titan’s Rank 10, low chance to proc off autos. This activation makes you overall stronger in damage, speed, and defense.

Enhancements

I recommend  Wizard and Healer enchants for this Class. Wizard giving you solid more Intellect which sources to both healing and damage with gives you best results. Wild card of Healer focusing more on Endurance more than Wizard enchant, giving you more tankiness in HP while still focusing on your Spell Power.

Wizard: Gives the raw number in Spell Power you need to deal more and heal more, slight chance of luck increasing your secondary stats won’t hurt at all.

Healer: Focuses more on a tanky Spell Power build, giving you more Endurance to absorb more hits to focus on stacking, then coming out stronger over time.

Overall Summary

In conclusion, this isn’t a spammable Class. You need hard focus on sustaining your recourses to maximize your damage output and survivability. Use Sanguine Pulse whenever it’s up to have a stronger mana regen as well as stronger sustain, healing you every time you use it. Pair this with Malevolence to increase your healing further, and negate their ability to heal from this ability as well. Malevolence also heals as a leech so fighting more numbers will improve your regen. Mirroring Arcane is very crucial to your kit when landed, granting you a much needed Haste buff to lower your Cooldowns. Crimson Ritual needs to be stacked often and stayed stacked, if you lost your stacks in a fight, there’s a high chance you’ll die. Finding the right rotations within your skills will make you the best Blood Mage but be careful, one false move and you can be out of life that easily.

Maybe you saw us streaming last week while we were all sitting on the couch trying out the game. We instantly fell in love with its old-school arcade gameplay -- which reminded us of our favorite games, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dungeons & Dragons, and my personal mega-favorite, Golden Axe. It is fun… and when I saw the laser shooting unicorn mounts I LOL’d. Check out the game for yourself.

My name is Gjappy, known as the human angel and AE archangel of Hope. former lead tester of AQ3D… etc. etc. Today is my birthday, and as this birthday is going to be a very special birthday, I’m celebrating it with you in AQWorlds in /join gparty! I have been working for AE as volunteer for 5 years and gained a lot of experience in managing teams, community work, testing and unofficial player support/Q&A. Introducing Batteries!

Coming to BioBeasts 1.5.0 are Batteries. Plink needs 10 Batteries to warp in a Mutation-filled Crate to help power up your beasts! Batteries are earned after completing each wave with a bonus battery for defeating the final boss, meaning it's possible to earn enough Batteries for a Crate on any Normal, Hard, or Insane run.

The Mutation Lab

Inside the Mutation Lab you can put those Batteries to good use! Use them to warp in new Crates filled with Battle Mutations, Beast Mutations, and Beast Skins!

After Plink warps in a Crate, it must be unlocked before opening. You can bypass this process with BioBits. Plink will also bring you a free crate every 8 hours. This gives you a great reason to check back on BioBeasts, even if you don't have time to play a few waves!

Mutation Crates

Each Crate is guaranteed to contain some kind of loot. However, not all Crates are created equally. Iron and Steel Crates, being the most basic, hold the fewest Mutations. Occasionally, Plink will get lucky and warp in a more luxurious crate like a Nuclear or Quantum Crate, which are guaranteed to contain Rare Mutations! Below is the breakdown of what you can expect from each type of Crate. 

Iron Crate Only seen in the Tutorial of the game, this Crate has the same capacity as the Steel Crate with 8 Mutations inside, but the unlocking process is very fast.
Free Crate Plink will find you a new Free Crate every 8 hours. Free Crates contain 15 Mutations.
Steel Crate This most common Crate yields 8 Mutations.
Reinforced Crate 15 Mutations, including at least 1 Rare.
Elite Crate 30 Mutations, including at least 3 Rare.
Nuclear Crate 70 Mutations, including 7 Rare and 1 Ultra.
Quantum Crate 250 Mutations, including 25 Rare, 5 Ultra, and 1 Epic.

Normally, we have a couple monster drops, with most of the release rewards in a merge shop. This week, we're trying something new to see what you guys prefer.

Get Your Two FREE HeroPoints!

Help Stryche celebrate the grand opening of the in-game HeroMart location by completing his quest for two FREE HeroPoints! Once you've gotten yours, you can spend them in his in-game merge shop. 

His quest is one-time only, but you can always get more HeroPoints when you buy merch from HeroMart.com! Currently, the only item that comes with HeroPoints is the new AQ3D shirt, but more HeroMart products will have them in the future!

Note: if you bought any HeroMart merchandise in the past, please make sure you check the inbox of the email that was used for the order, as you (or your parent) got an email with a code for exclusive, free HeroPoints! You can redeem those AND do Stryche's in-game quest for the two free points!)

DragonSlayer General Class Buff

MORE good news! The Class designers and balancers, plus Artix and I, watched your feedback and requests all weekend long! By the end of the day Saturday, the designers were already brainstorming on how to improve the class!

In the interest of not releasing a too-overpowered class, the designers created a class that had room for improvement. We always want to listen to your feedback to make the classes what YOU want them to be and now, with the changes made today, it will be.

Those changes are coming (or may already be live O_O), and you can see the full list here!

After speaking with Arklen, the head of our class design and testing team, we are also going to shoot for bringing back the "member preview for new classes" perk in the future to help get MORE feedback before it releases to all players.

Recent unplanned class "nerfs" and other changes 

Players have reported changes to several classes (like Abyssal Angel), saying they are doing less damage than before. Adjustments to rebalance those classes rolled out slightly early - on the new server, those are actually BUFFS, but with the current server, people are experiencing lower damage levels.

Other recent class changes:

• Archfiend now has better mana regain, consistent healing and improved damage. 
• Arachnomancer got a small buff to its survival and we are looking into its DoT damage for when the server rewrite goes live. 
• Alpha Pirate was doing spell damage while being mainly a weapon damage class so we adjusted it to do only weapon damage, which gave it a nice damage boost.

The other classes on the "to rebalance" list will be adjusted after the server rewrite, since the effect is too dramatic to release on the current live servers.

Speaking of the server rewrite...

Good news! The server rewrite itself is done BUT Yorumi estimates he has maybe a week left of client-side bug fixes. (Unless something goes unexpectedly awry... which CAN happen *eyes the server hamsters*)

These are primarily small-but-important fixes like:

• Chat mutes not working
• PVP Amulets not equipping
• Facebook link button does nothing

He has been making steady progress on those 20+ bugs fixed last week alone! (Thanks, testers and player-testers!!)

For everyone asking about the PTR Sir Ver Bank Pet... you'll need 150 Quest Mission Sprockets to create your very own PTR reward! You can get these by doing ANY of the quests on the PTR Testing servers. 

Make sure you report any bugs you find on the Bug Tracker!

Tonight: Elemental Dracolich WAR

This weekend, Desolich returns to attack Battleon!

Desoloth the Final - the Prime Elemental Dragon - was slain, then brought back to life by Drakath. Now he is Desolich the Final, and he hungers for vengeance! This weekend, he brings the powers of Fire. Water. Earth. Wind… and an army of undead dragons to attack OUR home! 

But the choice is yours -- will you fight to save our world… or help the dracoliches conquer it? 

• Battle elemental dracoliches or dragonslayers to raise the war meter and help your side reach 100% first!
• Unlock the war mini-boss at 75% on the war meter!
• Unlock the boss fight at 100% on the war meter, then defeat the boss to unlock a story cutscene!

It means we get to acquire new patients …uhh …  hire new Bug Hunters of course!
